As an innkeeper, I have had the honor and the pleasure to be a part of so many guests vacations. It's the perfect job for a retired party girl. I get to hear about all the wonderful places you have seen and all the cool things you do! So here is a little bit about me and a some history of Sunset House and Gardens. I come to Florida by way of New York and I have lived here for over 40 years! I love to renovate and redesign. If I wasn't having so much fun running Sunset House, I'm sure I would be designing and building beautiful, upcycled things. I'm a tree hugger and Sunset House is a certified wildlife habitat. I love taking care of the organic gardens on the property. I'm happy to give garden tours and share my knowledge of organic gardening and permaculture. I also love playing djembe drums, painting, saving and swapping native seeds and plants, traveling and creating upcycled/recycled crafts. I like going to cultural events, arts and craft show and drum circles. If that sounds like fun to you ask me what's going while you're in town. I usually know where the best ones are. If you would like to attend a drum circle there are several throughout the county on almost every night of the week. If you want to try drumming I can bring an extra drum for you. Sunset House was originally built in 1923 and by the time I got ahold of it, it was a big mess. In 2009 and began renovations. I tried to preserve the old time Florida feel of the house. After several years of laboring, begging, bartering, and at times throwing a hissy fit and crying, I finally received a certificate of occupancy from the local building department. I think they were just as glad to be rid of me as I was to be rid of them. Someday i would like to expand into glamping sites or yurts.
