Greek immigrants migrated to Tarpon Springs in the early 1900's to harvest sponges from the ocean. They opened restaurants and shops which is now what we know of as the BEST FREAKING PLACE TO GET A GYRO AND BAKLAVA outside of Athens, Greece. While you're there take a walk down Hope Street to St Michael's Shrine. Built in the backyard of a family after the miraculous healing of their child, it is home to a 300 year old icon and a place you will experience a peaceful energy. This is the place of the weeping painting. To read more click here "Weeping Icon". Locals go to light candles and say prayers and to feel the healing energy the quaint chapel emits. The Docks are also home to many festivals. Aside from the Epiphany, Day of the Cross on January 6th Tarpon hosts many other festivities.
